Grid- Based Type
Inspired by Gaudi’s Casa Batllo in Barcelona, Spain, the Gaudi typeface was developed by studying the unique curvature and natural shapes in the late architect’s work. The harmonious blend of sharp angles and smooth curves gave light to a grid-based typeface that still captures the essence of movement and natural shapes.
Developing a grid
In order to capture the many architectural shapes and elements found in Casa Batllo, line paths depicting shapes of the structure were drawn out, stretched, and duplicated to create a working grid that served as the base for the typeface. The following grid was used as the base to form a likeness amongst each character in order to create a cohesive typeface.
